flashback party 2014 It's back again to set the southern hemisphere on fire.

The Queen's Birthday long weekend (Saturday June 7th to Monday June 9th) - clear your diary, start planning and get your data on.

Located at the same venue as last year - Bridge Business College (333 Kent Street). The venue has ticked all the right boxes for the party organisation "successful party check list", including 24/7 access, places to sleep, showers, outdoor barbeque area adjacent to main party hall, onsite PC and internet access.

This year's Flashback event will have a strong drive towards demonstration of old hardware as well as becoming more open to the wider community, this is not just about the scene, but anyone that enjoys computers! We hope to have Amiga's (500, 1000, 2000, etc), C64, C128D, Plus4, Atari and a whole bunch of other stuff up and running. What we are wanting is more hardware to be brought in and if any of you have repair knowledge, we want to repair some of the stuff on site.

Just like last year, the event includes live performances from chip musicians and computer DJ's, it has full multi-platform competitions on a range of old and new systems such as the C64, Amiga and PC (entries are not only a local but also international/remote background is allowed!).

The party will be a ripper, start getting your productions in order and don't forget to register either at the official website at http://www.defame.com.au/flashback

Syntax Demo Party 2013 is only one week away and shaping up to be awesome.

There will be beer, computers old and new, analogue vision switchers, speaker systems and more SVIDEO cable than you can poke 53280 at. So come chill to some demos, compete in some compos (if you wish) and let your inner geek out! Everyone welcome; but please ask them to sign up so they are on the door list.

Venue: Club Voltaire, Upstairs @ 14 Raglan Street, Noth Melbourne
Public Transport: The 57 Tram which leaves from Elizabeth street
Time: Sat 9th from 1pm – 11:30pm then Sun 10th from midday – 5pm

Remember; a HUGE part of Syntax are the compos… so do your best to get something in even if it’s for the laughs. There are a ton of categories spanning music, graphic design, code / demo and hardware. There are slabs to be won and (of course) the inaugural Syntax Trophie - not to mention music performances and good company. It’s a free event but any donations on the day are appreciated to cover equipment and venue costs.

Go to the CSDb entry page and also visit the official Syntax Party site here for more info.

See you at the party!

What a great bloody party! Flashback 2013 is over for another year. Things ramped up considerably from last year. A better venue, good attendance and 64 compo entries (!) with a higher overall quality (including more variation, we had C64, Amiga, Amstrad, Spectrum, Playstation and PC)! We had around 4 barbeques which allowed the audience to really fuel up for late night data action. The Retro Museum went off - literally, with many machines mainly donated by Jazzcat and Reload but also some thankful efforts by TBH, Strobe and TrinaryLogic.

The official results are now live, in ascii glory and over the coming days we will make available the single zip pack containing all releases. Grab the Flashback 2013 Official Results here and stay tuned for the release pack coming shortly and also the photos and videos, capturing a great Aussie scene party! Looking forward to the next one already!!! (after recovery).

scene letters Scene Letters - The Gateway to the written past of the demo scene has been launched by The Heavyweight (ex-Chrome, Affinity).

Scene Letters brings back the old glory days of mail swapping, the time before the internet was around, when one of the only ways for some people to get software was using good old snail mail. As a megaswapper from back in the day, I have fond memories of swapping and the hard work required when you had a lot of contacts to work with. Because of this, I am quite excited about the project, it shows letters, paper mags and disk covers that were circulated by the traders during those swapping days and offers an open system to register, scan and upload. Make sure to check it out at http://www.sceneletters.com and if you want to read more about the swapping scene, have a look at The Art of Swapping.

flashback 2013 This year's Flashback event has been graced with the official invite by both Defame and Onslaught.

The intro showcases a combination of modern PC power with Amiga flavour. It features code by Voltage/Defame, graphics by Reload/Defame and music by Adam/Onslaught. Make sure to grab it from Pouet and submerge in its flavour, it is a testament of the digital atmosphere that the party will entertain!

flashback party 2013 It's back...

The Queen's Birthday long weekend (Saturday June 8th to Monday June 10th) is set in stone.

Along with this, yet another big announcement here is that the party now has a new venue - it is only a few buildings down and on the same street as last year - Bridge Business College (333 Kent Street). The venue has ticked all the right boxes for the party organisation "successful party check list", including 24/7 access, sleeping possibility, showers, outdoor barbeque area, onsite PC and internet access.

Just a quick one on the Syntax event this year.

Due to the success of last year's event venue, it will more than likely be held at the same place. Hopefully this time we can convince the bar/owner to stay open to around 3AM rather than midnight, so we can rock on.

As usual, the party will be around mid-November, more info to arrive at the party website. Also, CSDb has opened up an entry for those early birds wanting to register that have an account there. Go to the CSDb entry page and also visit the official Syntax Party site here for more info.

Flashback Pre Party This semi-closed event will take place on Saturday the 9th of February (spilling into Sunday).

This mini meeting is a small gathering of sceners and other geeks to catch up, have a BBQ and discuss the upcoming Flashback party on an organisational level (as we will more than likely have a new venue and some different inclusions on the timetable this year, including a huge display of old computers that are working and not working, demofest may become repairfest!).

Oh, and not to forget, there maybe some gfx and vfx compos being held and we will have a live stream of the Tokyo Demo Fest! Miss TrinaryLogic is attending this event, so hopefully we can catch a glimpse at her doing some Karaoke on the bigscreen!
